A number.
That is all my grandmother, and millions of other Jews, were reduced to during the Holocaust - a number forcefully tattooed onto her skin forever. Stripped of her clothes, her head shaved, her dignity stolen, yet her determination to survive was the one thing they could never take away from her.
From the Polish ghetto to the multiple concentration camps she had to suffer through, and all of the horrors that came with all of it, she still survived. She was there when the camp was liberated, she made it to Sweden and she lived to tell the tale.
I am not ashamed to be Jewish. I am proud of my grandmother for her strength and for the fact that even though they took literally everything from her, including her very name and identity, she still refused to let them win.
That is why, modern politics aside, I wear my Star of David with pride. Not because of some piece of land, or because of some special holy book - but because I am the very proud descendant of the ones they couldn’t break.
We will never again be just a number. I will never let fear win, and hide who I am. And I will never forget, nor will I forgive.
And I will damn sure do everything in my power to never let it happen again.

When someone literally says that they only care about bad things as long as Jews are involved, but at the same time claim that nothing bad happens anywhere else in the world, that’s textbook antisemitism. And I WILL call you on it.
We are not scared anymore. We are no longer Jews with trembling knees. If you want to have an honest conversation I am always up for it, but if you JUST hate Jews for being who we are, I’m sorry, we’re done.

Over 2,500 years ago, King Cyrus the Great of Persia ended the Babylonian captivity and helped the Jewish people return to Jerusalem to rebuild our Temple. He helped us return home, rebuild our society, and practice our beliefs in peace, treating us with kindness when so many before him had not.
